Nothing Gold Can Stay, a Scott Belcastro solo show

"Her hardest hue to hold" 12 x 23 inches, acrylic on panel.

This September the 17th, 2009 opens the first European solo show with Los Angeles based painter Scott Belcastro.

The title 'Nothing Gold Can Stay' is about the erosion of youth and innocence in all aspects of everyday life. Through a collection of original paintings, Scott Belcastro explores the native nature of our state of mind; he endeavors to inspire and nurture our interest in nature and awaken the beauty found in the transformation of our environments. Becoming part of this natural change is akin to immersing ourselves into a golden moment in time.
The paintings capture a moment of innocence and its vulnerability to a change that is about to happen. Belcastro uses explosive colours to display his frustration and confusion in dealing with his unsettled spirit. What appear to be harmless paintings of landscape in the first glance depict the feeling of uncertainty about the transformation that occurs around us. Belcastro says "Change is inevitable; watching it take place is gold."

Scott Belcastro's paintings are a meticulous study of endless landscapes and skies; a struggle between illustration and abstract expressionism, telling stories of inner silence, loneliness and the search for something larger within ourselves. The paintings are a reflection of the artist's childhood memories, growing up in the immense countryside of upstate New York.
